“I don’t know if therapy is for me…”

We hear you. This can be a common thought when debating taking the first step.

Anyone can see a psychologist. We can all benefit. There is a place in our practice for adults and adolescents (15 years +).

Whether you need treatment for a mental health condition, such as an anxiety disorder, or depression. Or whether you need a space to explore your sense of self and make life changes- our therapy can help you navigate life’s challenges. Carlie works within the following areas of practice:

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal human response to perceived threat or danger. However, when anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, or triggered by fears that feel difficult to control, it can begin to significantly impact daily life.

For many people, anxiety can affect work, relationships, sleep, and overall wellbeing. When this happens, seeking support from a psychologist can be an important step toward recovery.

Common anxiety disorders we support include:

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder

  • Social Anxiety Disorder

  • Panic Disorder

  • Specific Phobias

  • Agoraphobia

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we provide evidence-based treatment for anxiety, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Therapy focuses on helping you understand your anxiety, develop practical coping strategies, and feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions.

grief and loss

Grief and bereavement are natural responses to loss, often accompanied by a range of emotional, physical, and psychological reactions. Feelings such as sadness, anger, denial, and confusion are all normal parts of the grieving process.

While grief is a deeply personal experience, it can at times feel overwhelming or difficult to navigate alone. Without support, some people may find themselves feeling stuck or unable to adjust to life after loss.

At our practice in the Sutherland Shire, we provide compassionate psychological support to help you process grief in a healthy and meaningful way.

anger

Anger is a normal human emotion and often arises when we perceive a barrier to our goals or feel disrespected or treated unfairly. In many situations, anger can serve a useful purpose by signalling that something isn’t right.

However, when anger is experienced frequently, intensely, or feels difficult to control, it can begin to impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we support individuals to better understand their anger and develop healthier ways of responding.

Veteran and dva mental health support

Carlie provides compassionate, evidence-based psychological support for veterans and current serving members navigating the emotional impact of military service, transition, stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties.

Therapy is tailored to your individual experiences and goals, with a practical, respectful, and collaborative approach. Carlie works with veterans experiencing concerns such as PTSD, anger, burnout, sleep difficulties, relationship stress, and challenges adjusting to civilian life.

DVA referrals are welcome, including eligible clients accessing support through a White Card or Gold Card.

depression

We all feel sad from time to time. Depression, however, is more than just feeling low. It is a persistent condition that can affect how you think, feel, and function in your daily life.

To meet criteria for depression, a person typically experiences a low mood most days for at least two weeks, along with several other symptoms such as:

  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities

  • Low motivation or energy

  • Changes in appetite

  • Sleep difficulties (sleeping too much or too little)

  • Changes in weight

  • Feelings of hopelessness

  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt

  • Thoughts of death or suicide

Depression can impact work, relationships, and overall wellbeing, but effective support is available.

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we provide evidence-based psychological treatment for depression, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In some cases, medication prescribed by a GP or psychiatrist may also be helpful, and a combined approach can be highly effective.

If you’re struggling, seeking support early can make a meaningful difference.

body image issues

When we feel at war with our bodies, life can become exhausting and emotionally draining. Body image concerns can impact our confidence, self-worth, and ability to fully engage in life and experience joy.

In today’s world, it can be difficult to develop a positive relationship with your body, especially with ongoing exposure to unrealistic standards and negative messages from media and culture. Over time, this can lead to persistent dissatisfaction, self-criticism, and disconnection from your body.

For some individuals, body image concerns may develop into more significant difficulties, including body image disorders, including body dysmorphic disorder, which benefit from professional support.

cancer and chronic illness

Living with cancer or a chronic illness can be physically and emotionally challenging. Alongside medical treatment, many people experience anxiety, low mood, uncertainty, and changes to their identity, relationships, and daily life.

Adjusting to a diagnosis or ongoing health condition can feel overwhelming. You may be coping with fear about the future, treatment-related stress, fatigue, or a sense of loss around how life used to be.

At our practice in the Sutherland Shire, we provide compassionate, evidence-based psychological support for individuals living with cancer or chronic illness. Therapy offers a safe space to process your experience and develop strategies to cope more effectively.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common but often misunderstood condition that involves recurring, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals (compulsions). These patterns can feel overwhelming, time-consuming, and difficult to control.

Obsessions may involve fears about harm, contamination, making mistakes, or things not feeling “just right.” In response, compulsions such as checking, cleaning, counting, or seeking reassurance are used to reduce anxiety, but often keep the cycle going.

OCD can significantly impact daily life, including work, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Many people feel stuck in a cycle of anxiety and temporary relief.

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we provide evidence-based treatment for OCD in a supportive and non-judgemental environment. Therapy typically includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with a focus on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD.

relationship difficulties

Humans are inherently social, and having close, meaningful relationships is essential for our overall wellbeing. Strong relationships can provide support, connection, and a sense of belonging.

However, it is also normal for conflict to arise in close relationships. When conflict is not managed effectively, it can lead to ongoing tension, miscommunication, and a gradual breakdown in connection.

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we support individuals to better understand relationship patterns, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of managing conflict, helping you build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

stress

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is something most people experience at some point in their lives. With increasing demands, constant connectivity, and pressure to perform, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

While some stress can be helpful, ongoing or excessive stress can begin to impact your mental and physical health. Many people find themselves feeling constantly “on edge,” fatigued, or unable to switch off.

High levels of stress are one of the most common concerns we see in private practice. When left unmanaged, stress can contribute to anxiety, burnout, sleep difficulties, and reduced overall wellbeing.

trauma

Experiencing trauma can have a lasting impact on how you feel, think, and relate to the world around you. Trauma may result from a single distressing event or from ongoing, repeated experiences over time.

Some people develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can occur after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening or highly distressing event. Others may experience Complex Trauma, which often develops following prolonged or repeated exposure to difficult experiences, particularly in relationships or during earlier stages of life.

At Carlie Jordan Clinical Psychology in the Sutherland Shire, we provide trauma-informed psychological treatment in a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. Treatment is always tailored to your individual needs and paced in a way that feels manageable.
